After the conclusion of the American War of Secession, two former Southern comrades named California and Willy find themselves in a dangerous situation. They are hunted by a group of bounty hunters who try to capture Southern soldiers guilty of crimes committed during the war.
Unfortunately, Willy is killed during an escape attempt when they try to steal a horse to escape from some Northern soldiers determined to avenge the death of one of their brothers who fell in the war.
California, determined to honour Willy's memory, decides to take Willy's medal to his parents. However, when he arrives at Willy's family, his late friend's sister convinces him to stay. In the course of time, California and Willy's sister fall deeply in love.
However, the happiness of the two is interrupted when the girl is kidnapped by bounty hunters, who try to use her as a hostage to escape the law, which has accused them of murder.
California, determined to save his beloved, sets out to track down the kidnappers and bring the girl back safely.
