Angela Cantalupo is a young woman desired by two men: Tonino and Carlo. While Tonino seeks her affection on a mere whim, prompted also by his father, Professor Pinzarrone, Carlo is sincerely in love with Angela, although his feelings are not reciprocated.
During a meeting with Angela, Tonino has a car accident, but fortunately both escape unhurt. Professor Pinzarrone decides to take advantage of this situation to take revenge for a wrong suffered in his youth by Angela's father, Professor Cantalupo. Pinzarrone spreads the rumour that his son Tonino was injured in the accident to attract the attention of Angela and her father, who show concern for the boy.
In the meantime, Carlo and two of his friends also enter the story. They are known to play tricks on others, especially Professor Cianca, exploiting her fear of sudden noises. Professor Cantalupo, in turn, tries to seduce Tecla, an attractive adventuress from Emilia.
Carlo tries to draw Angela's attention away from Tonino, but to no avail. However, in the end, the trick concocted by Pinzarrone is revealed. Tonino lies about his injury, but then actually injures himself by falling off a cliff. Without a credible excuse, Tonino admits that he had deceived Angela. Professor Cantalupo, already angry with Pinzarrone, finds an opportunity for revenge and hits him in the back with a shovel.
Pinzarrone ends up in hospital with his son, and Professor Cantalupo, pleased, realises that even Angela's father's misdeeds have not escaped fate. When he goes to visit Tonino and his father at the hospital, Cantalupo is beaten up by one of Tecla's suitors for trying to seduce her. In the end, he too ends up in hospital in the same room with the other two.
Meanwhile, misunderstandings between Angela and Carlo are resolved, and in the end, the girl realises that Carlo's feelings were sincere from the start and accepts his love without further ado.
